The Kingdom of the Lion

The beasts of the field and forest had a lion as their king. He was neither angry, cruel, nor a tyrant but as just and gentle as a king should be. He issued during his reign a royal demand that all of the birds and beasts should gather about him and drew up rules for a league in which the wolf and the lamb, the panther and the kid, the tiger and the snake, the dog and the hare should live in perfect peace.

The hare said, "Oh, how I have longed to see this day in which the weak shall take their place without fear by the sight of the strong."
