The Goatherd and the Goats

Translation:

It was a stormy day when a goatherd drove his herd white with snow into a cave for shelter. There, he found a herd of wild goats and thinking to have them all for his own, he left his goats to huddle together or wander out in the storm, and brought branches to the wild goats to browse upon.

When the sky cleared he found his own goats had perished and the wild ones scampered off to the hills and woods. So it happens that the goatherd returned a laughing stock to his neighbors having failed to gain the new flock and having lost his own.
