A dog and a cock having struck up an acquaintance, went out on a journey together. Dusk found them in the forest; so the cock flying up in a tree, perched in the branches, while the dog dosed below.
Day dawned and the cock began to crow. A fox hearing him, came and thus addressed him: "Thou art a good bird. Come down that we may sing together." The cock replied, "Go, my good friend, to the foot of the tree and call the sacristan to toll the bell." The dog leaped out and seizing the fox, soon made an end of him.
