"You think you'll just wait it out — That it'll get better on its own. You don't want to go to the doctor because then you'd have to admit how bad you're feeling."

What Is Depression?

Depression is a medical condition, like diabetes, asthma, or heart disease, and it is quite common. It is more than being sad for a while or feeling grief after the loss of a loved one. Depression affects your feelings, thoughts, behavior and physical health. It is not a character flaw or failure. Just like using insulin in diabetes, in depression where a person has difficulty producing, certain important chemicals also seem to be out of balance. The good news is that not only is it treatable, but you can make a complete recovery from depression.
