How can I tell if I have PTSD?

Since we all deal with traumatic events differently, it may be difficult to tell if you or someone you know has developed PTSD. The following self-test has been designed to screen for PTSD.

PTSD self-test

Identify the trauma in your past that is most disturbing to you now. In the past week, have you experienced any of the following symptoms:

  1. Have you ever felt as if you "were reliving the traumatic event? (e.g. flashbacks, nightmares) Yes No
  2. Have you been jumpy or easily startled? Yes No
  3. Have you been avoiding doing things or going into situations that remind you of the event? Yes No

If you answered "YES" to any of the above questions, take the test with you to your doctor, you may be suffering from PTSD. There are treatments available to help you manage your PTSD.
